Task 1
The arctic fox – description of habitat:
Description:
Arctic foxes have short, compact bodies and
thick fur which changes colour from greyish-brown in the
summer to pure white in the winter.
Habitat :
The arctic fox lives in one of the most inhospitable habitats on Earth. In the winter they live in almost perpetual darkness and in the summer they live through almost 24 hours of sunlight a day.he arctic fox lives in dens that are dug into the side of a hill, cliff or riverbank. In winter dig a series of interconnecting tunnels in the deep snow where the family live.
The territory of the arctic fox depends largely on the availability of food. During the winter when food is scarce a whole family will share a larger territory and in the summer when food is more abundant the territory shrinks.
The arctic fox does not hibernate during the winter but may migrate south to the coast or overwinter along the treeline of northern Scandinavia.

The arctic fox – how the body structure is adapted to its habitat

The size and body shape of Arctic fox have a crucial role to play in maintaining its body temperature. It has a small and round body - with a short muzzle and thick ears, which reduces its exposure to cold and minimizes heat loss. Its furry tail doesn't just help it when it comes to balance and camouflage, but also acts as a warm blanket when it sleeps. The arctic fox has even adapted its feet to survive in the harsh winter climate of the Arctic with the fur on the bottom of its feet providing it protection from the ice while walking or digging the ground.
The arctic fox – how the body systems are adapted to its habitat
It has a system in its body wherein there is counter current exchange of heat which is attributed to circulation of blood and adequate amount of adipose tissues.

The fennec fox – description of habitat
Description:
Fennec foxes are also known as desert foxes, since they survive in the Saharan desert. They are the smallest of the species of foxes, and several people wish to adopt them as exotic pets, because of their appearance. This is however, very rare, as they require special care and attention.
Habitat
Fennec Foxes inhabit the sandy Sahara Desert and other semi-arid regions of North Africa.Fennec foxes are found in North Africa from Morocco to Egypt, south to north Niger and Sudan, east to Sinai Peninsula and Kuwait. The Fennec Fox can dig with great speed and they construct elaborate burrows which interconnect forming a cozy underground community. Burrows are lined with soft materials such as bits of fur and feathers to make them comfortable when they sleep during the day.

The fennec fox – how the body structure is adapted to its habitat
Their large ears, which are usually 6 inches long ,its help dissipate excess body heat on hot days in the desert. Their thick fur helps insulate them from the cold desert nights.Their sandy fur helps to reflect heat, and also provides excellent camouflage. Fennec foxes also have thick fur on the soles of their feet, which insulate against the hot sand of the desert. This extra fur on the soles of their feet also affords them excellent traction in the loose sand.
he fennec fox – how the body systems are adapted to its habitat
The fennec fox seems to be the only carnivore living in the Sahara Desert able to survive without free water. Their kidneys are adapted to restrict water loss, their extensive burrowing may cause the formation of dew, which can then be consumed, and they will receive moisture from the food that they eat. Also Their burrowing and nocturnal lifestyle helps restrict water loss.
